Overview
A short documentary about legendary mountain guide Dave Hahn, who has summited Everest 15 times, more than any non-Sherpa. The film focuses not on the summit, but on the mindset of returning to the mountain again and again, choosing to stay in the arena.
The Problem
With no expedition to film and no new footage, the story had to be told entirely through existing material. The challenge was creating something original and emotionally compelling using only archival footage.
The Approach
Built the narrative around philosophy rather than achievement, using archival footage licensed from Eddie Bauer alongside a single interview to construct a story about persistence, identity, and what it means to keep showing up.
The Work
The Outcome
The film was completed on a zero-dollar budget and accepted into Telluride Mountainfilm and other mountain festivals, demonstrating how strong storytelling can emerge from constraint.
Reflection
This project reinforced that story doesn’t come from access or scale, but from perspective. With the right lens, even existing material can become something new and meaningful.
